Monarch Butterfly Tagging & Release Project

Our youngest learners are part of a service learning effort to tag and release monarch butterflies. Children witness the extraordinary metamorphosis of the jewel like chrysalis to the colorful monarch and learn how our actions impact the environment. Older students assist in the butterfly tagging process and wish the creatures well on their journey to Mexico. Scientists use the information to learn about the pathways monarchs take on their fall migratory trip, how weather affects migration and how migration paths differ from year to year.
