Urban Middle School Recieves Donation for Translation Technology

May 19, 2022

Urban Middle School received a generous donation to purchase technology for students who need translation assistance. The Kuck Family made the donation in honor of David Kuck, a former Urban Middle School teacher, who passed away in October 2021. Susan Kuck, a former librarian at Urban Middle School, and her daughter Elizabeth shared that David was “a leader in computer and internet usage for our students when he was a teacher at Urban.”

The donation was used to purchase three TimeKettle WT2 Edge Real-time Translators and iPads. The WT2 Edge is a set of earbuds that work in conjunction with the TimeKettle app to allow real-time translation. With this technology, a teacher will be able to give instruction in English and have their instruction translated into the desired language and spoken in the earbud for the student, which provides additional support to our students for whom English is not their first language.

“We are honored that the Kuck family chose to honor David’s memory with this generous donation to Urban Middle School. We are also very grateful for all they have done during both their careers at Urban Middle School,” said Dr. Ted DiStefano, Principal of Urban Middle School.
