As we continue our commitment to sustaining a positive and nurturing environment for our students at LCA, I am excited to share insights into our commitment to Restorative Practices --a powerful tool that promotes effective relationship building and conflict resolution. Our staff continues to use Restorative Practices with our students in the classroom, and I want to introduce to you the concept of "I Statements," and how they can be seamlessly integrated into your home environment.
"I Statements" are a cornerstone of Restorative Practices, encouraging individuals to express their feelings and needs. “I” statements tell the listener how the person feels and why it makes them feel that way. They are an effective way to teach students how to express their emotions appropriately. When used with fidelity, they can effectively reinforce positive actions and explain feelings without assigning blame or shame. By using statements that begin with "I feel" or "I need," we create a space for open dialogue and understanding. Encourage your children to utilize these statements when expressing their emotions, fostering a sense of self-awareness and empathy.
At home, try incorporating "I Statements" during family discussions or moments of tension. This simple yet powerful technique can transform conflicts into opportunities for growth and understanding. By modeling and encouraging the use of "I Statements", we not only enhance communication skills but also empower our children to navigate the complexities of their emotions with grace and resilience. Together, we can instill values that extend beyond the classroom and positively impact the lives of our children.
The Winter Concert at 6pm on Thursday, November 30th is quickly approaching. This concert will feature our 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Concert attire is black bottoms with a white top with a splash of holiday color, i.e. a colorful tie or headband. Dress pants and skirts/dresses are highly encouraged.
New this year, our 8th graders are allowed to wear an ugly Christmas sweater as it pertains to the song they are singing in the performance. We ask that there are no flashing lights on the sweaters.
The 7th & 8th grades’ practice will begin at 5:30 in the cafeteria while the 5th & 6th grades will begin their practice at 5:45 in the Music room. Students should arrive a minimum of 10 minutes prior to the practice time. Attendance is required for all students in these grades. We are looking forward to sharing the talents and goodwill of the LCA students at this time of year.
We are excited to host a Holiday Cookie Walk and Scholastic Book Fair this year on Saturday, Dec. 2, 9 am - 12 pm. This event is open to the community and money raised will be used to purchase books for classroom libraries.
Our Cookie Walk features hundreds of decorated Christmas cookies and are sold by the pound. But we need cookie bakers! Can you help? You can sign up to bake and/or volunteer for the event:
We will host our book fair from November 30-December 2. Stay tuned for more information on the whole event!
(We will not be hosting a craft fair along with the Cookie Walk and Book Fair as we have done in the past.)
The enrollment period for 2024-25 is December 1-February 8, 2024. All currently enrolled students in 4K-7th grades are guaranteed placement according to our enrollment policy and will not need to complete an application or return a Letter of Intent. We will plan on your child attending next year!
If your child will not be returning to LCA next year, please email the office to let us know. The space will be made available for outside applicants. (No need to email us regarding your 8th grader:)
Please email the office if you have a child who you plan to enroll for the first time at LCA next year. Sibling preference is given to incoming students if space is available. But we must be made aware of your intent before the lottery takes place for outside applicants. Email the office by January 5, 2024. More info on new students to LCA:
