Superintendent's Report
At each regular Board of Education meeting, our Superintendent shares news, accomplishments, and updates about the Sheboygan Area School District.

  • South High School will host the SASD Annual Veterans Day Program on Thursday, Nov 9.
  • North/South Drama presents Mean Girls High School Version on November 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11 in the North High Auditorium. (Recommended for ages 14+) Ticket Info Here
  • The sale of district property between Saemann Avenue, Geele Avenue, and North Taylor Drive to Froedtert Health and Medical College of Wisconsin was finalized on Wednesday, Oct 23. The process of selling this undeveloped parcel of land began in November 2021. Read more here.

Assessment Data
Administration presented the Wisconsin Forward Exam and ACT assessment results from the 2022-23 school year. The SASD is seeing a positive trajectory for assessment scores. Below are a few highlights.

ACT Highlights:
The ACT is required to be administered to all 11th-grade students statewide, regardless of their plans after high school.

  • The number of SASD students scoring at or above proficiency on the ACT has significantly increased over the last two years, rebounding to pre-COVID levels.
  • The SASD Composite Score on the ACT is 18.8, which is the highest SASD composite score in the last four years. All subject area scores show a positive trend for the district.
  • To prepare students, SASD administers the PreACT to students in grades 9, 10, and 11. Exposure to standardized tests such as the PreACT helps to increase student ACT scores, and results from the test allow teachers to eliminate content gaps and ensure students are exposed to the same level of rigor in their courses

Wisconsin Forward Exam Highlights:
The Wisconsin Forward Exam is the required state standardized test administered to students in grades 3-8 and 11 in the spring.

  • The percentage of students in grades 3-5 scoring advanced or proficient on the Forward Exam for Math and ELA is the highest it's been in the last four years that tests have been administered.
  • When we compare the historical performance of our students over time (test scores of the same cohort of students over time in grade 3 and grade 11), SASD students outperformed our comparable peer districts and all but one county school district in terms of the percentage of students who maintained their score at advanced or proficient from grade 3 to grade 11.

Third Friday Enrollment Report
Administration presented the annual enrollment data report for the 2023-24 school year. This report includes information and trends about our enrollment, student demographics, and open enrollment.
SASD total enrollment is 9,438 students for the 2023-24 school year. This is nearly 80 more students than projected, which is good news! Many districts are facing declining enrollment due, in part, to fewer students of school age living in our county.
The annual Third Friday Reports are posted on the About page of our website.

2024-2025 Calendar Proposal
Administration is revisiting the idea of changing the school calendar to nine full-day professional development days for staff to replace the current early release Wednesday schedule. This change is being considered to decrease the time students spend on the school buses, decrease the amount of additional supervision falling on staff, and increase the effectiveness of professional development.
Families and staff were surveyed in 2019 with approximately 65% approval for the full day professional development days over the Wednesday early releases, but implementation was put off due to COVID. Administration would like to survey parents again on their schedule/calendar preference for future school calendars.
Starting next year, the SASD is also proposing to implement Virtual Learning Snow Days. The calendar would continue to have one snow day built in for students and staff. Any additional snow days would be virtual learning days that would not need to be made up.

Purchase of Vaping Detectors
The Board of Education approved the purchase of vaping detectors to be installed in every bathroom at the middle and high schools. When activated, the detectors will send a notification to the school administration so they can address any students vaping in our schools.
