Family Letter: On-Site COVID Testing and Enhanced Testing Mitigation

September 30, 2021

Español - Hmoob

Dear Sheboygan Area School District families,

We are continuing to closely monitor student illness and positive COVID-19 cases. You can view the most up-to-date COVID information on our website at

COVID-19 Testing is one of our mitigation strategies. COVID-19 testing will soon be available free of charge at a majority of school locations in the Sheboygan Area School District and is available to all students, staff, and families.

The testing site at Horace Mann Middle School will open starting on Thursday, September 30 for any student, staff, or family to utilize. The testing site will be open from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located inside the school. *Please note: there is road construction on Union Ave, so families will need to enter on Georgia Ave. and follow the signs to the circle driveway in front of the school.

Visit our website at for locations, times, and additional testing site information. Please watch the webpage for opening dates of the other school testing sites.

To Utilize the Testing Sites:

  • Parents/guardians must be present to test children in 4K, elementary and middle school.

  • High school students are required to have parent/guardian consent each time they are tested. In the event that a parent/guardian cannot be present with a high school student, a consent form must be completed and handed in at the testing site. These forms can be picked up at any SASD high school main office or can be printed here: SASD COVID-19 Testing Sites

  • Families of all students will also need to complete a short online registration on COVID Connect, which can be done in advance at or at the door. Our SASD testing sites are considered ‘non-public testing sites’.

Enhanced Mitigation Efforts will begin Monday, October 11

Now that testing will soon be widely available within the Sheboygan Area School District, we are enhancing our COVID-19 Testing mitigation efforts to meet the needs of our families as we enter cold and flu season.

  • Students who are symptomatic regardless of vaccination status will need a negative COVID-19 test result to return to school. If a family chooses not to test their child, the child will need to remain home for 10 days. They can return on the 11th day if fever-free and symptoms have improved.

  • Unvaccinated close contacts to a positive COVID-19 case who do not develop symptoms can shorten their 10 day quarantine by testing on day 6 or 7 following exposure to return to school on day 8. If a family chooses not to test, the child will need to quarantine for 10 days.

  • Vaccinated close contacts to a positive COVID-19 case may test 3-5 days after their exposure or at any point if they develop symptoms.

We have recently enhanced our parent communications and will send letters in the event of multiple cases in an elementary grade level or when there is increased illness within a school. In both of these instances, we strongly encourage families to utilize our SASD testing sites.
