Camilla the Therapy Dog

Meet Camilla, the certified therapy dog who visits Cleveland Elementary School to help students improve their reading skills!

Camilla is an exceptional therapy dog, certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI) based out of New Jersey. She passed a rigorous test in 2016 to get licensed, and her certificate remains active to this day thanks to the efforts of her owner and former Cleveland Elementary School student, Jen Brandt.

Camilla brings joy to everyone she meets. She visits Cleveland Elementary School every Wednesday to read with the students, who “adore her,” according to school secretary Lexi Krenn-Herrmann.

Students can earn "paws" by displaying safe, responsible, and respectful behavior and can choose to spend them at the school store, save them for the end-of-the-school-year raffle, or purchase a time to read to Camilla. A select group of four students is chosen each week to spend time with her.

It is evident that Camilla has made a significant impact on the Cleveland Elementary School community. Her presence has helped create a safe, calm, and happy environment for the students. Camilla is an asset to the school and a great example of the positive influence that therapy dogs can have on students’ lives within our district.
