Frank Juárez of the Sheboygan Area School District has received the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement – College of Arts and Sciences from Carroll University.

Juárez is an award-winning art educator, artist, author, publisher, and former gallery director. He brings two decades of art education and arts management experience organizing local and regional art exhibitions, community art events, facilitating presentations, supporting artists through grant programs, and leading professional development workshops for artists. This has placed him in the forefront of promoting Wisconsin artists, networking, and attracting regional and national artists to collaborate and exhibit in Wisconsin.

Juárez is actively involved in the Wisconsin Art Education Association, the National Art Education Association, and the National Art Education Foundation. He has served on the following arts organizations: Milwaukee Artist Resource Network, Create Wisconsin (formerly Arts Wisconsin), and the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

He has presented at local universities, colleges, galleries, and artist groups on Professional Practices for Artists: Business of Art. He is the founder of two projects focused on contemporary art and art education called the Midwest Artist Studios Project and the 365 Artists 365 Days Project.

Juárez is the art department chair at Sheboygan North High School, publisher of Artdose Magazine, and contributing editor of SchoolArts Magazine. He earned his bachelor of science degree in 1997 and teacher certification in 2000 from Carroll University and completed his master’s in educational leadership from Marian University in 2004.

He served as a member of the Carroll University Art Advisory Council from 2010 through 2012, and since 2022, he has been on the Carroll University Wisconsin Art Collection Advisory Board. Carroll University has also exhibited Juárez’s art in 2010, 2012, and 2015.

He has received the 2015 Wisconsin Art Education Association Teacher of the Year and the 2016 National Art Education Association Wisconsin Art Educator of the Year awards. In 2018, he was elected to serve on the National Art Education Foundation Board of Trustees and was the recipient of the 2018 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellows Award. In 2019, he was the recipient of the National Secondary Art Educator Award. In 2021, he joined the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass Board of Directors. Recently, he was the recipient of the Wisconsin Visual Art Achievement Award for K-12 Art Education, was elected as the National Art Education Foundation Communications Chair, and is a member of the National Art Education Association Connected Arts Network.
