The Sheboygan Area School District is proud to announce that two students and one staff member have been recognized by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.

Congratulations to Evangeline Joyce and Carolyne van Deventer from North High School, who were selected as Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Excellence Scholars. Recipients of the Excellence scholarship are chosen by their schools and are students who have demonstrated academic excellence and have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership in their community.

One Sheboygan Area School District teacher has been selected as an Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellow. Congratulations to Kai Mills, World Languages Teacher at North and South High Schools. She is one of only 100 teachers selected for this honor statewide. Recipients are educators who have been chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others, and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom.

Awards of $6,000 are given to the teachers and their schools, and $10,000 scholarships will be given to the graduating high school students.

“We are extremely proud of our students and staff members who were recognized by the Kohl Foundation and want to congratulate them for their outstanding work,” said Seth Harvatine, Superintendent of Schools. “It is an honor to be among the small number of students and teachers selected statewide for these awards.”

The Kohl Foundation award program was established by Herb Kohl, former U.S. Senator, philanthropist, and businessman. Since 1990, the foundation has awarded nearly $34 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students, and schools. “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation,” Kohl said. “I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future.”
