Virtual Learning Extended at Urban

Dear Urban Families,

Thank you for your flexibility and support. The cleanup and asbestos abatement are well underway at Urban, following the substantial water damage to six of our classrooms on December 26. Unfortunately, this cleanup process is taking longer than first expected.

Immediately following the completion of the cleanup process, rigorous air testing will be conducted in our school. Upon passing this inspection, we will be returning to in-person learning. At this time, we anticipate students will return to the school building on Monday, January 9.

Virtual Learning Plan for Tuesday, January 3 - Friday, January 6:
We ask that all staff and students follow the regular bell schedules on these days for virtual classes. The day will begin with Homeroom from 7:40 a.m. to 7:54 a.m., where teachers and students will have a chance to touch base on the plan for the virtual school day. Attendance will be taken each hour of the day (except Lunch) so please plan to have your child attend each virtual class.

  • Teachers will post your Google Meet links for each class on the Daily Assignments page.

If your child needs a Chromebook, Internet access, or a quiet place to study, please reach out to Principal, Dr. Di Stefano (tdistefano@sasd.net) or Assistant Principal, Mr. Torres (jtorres@sasd.net) and we will work with you on accommodations.

The six water-damaged classrooms will remain closed for several months due to the necessary time it will take to complete reconstruction. If your child had a class in one of these rooms, there is a plan in place for relocation.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Please know we continue to take the safety of our students and staff very seriously and are tending to this matter swiftly and safely.

For the benefit of our students and families, grab-and-go meals will be available for pickup on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the North High Commons foyer on School Avenue.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
