Youth-Tutoring-Youth (YTY)

Youth-Tutoring-Youth is a program that provides high school students with an opportunity to give direct tutoring assistance to elementary classrooms under the guidance of a supervising and coordinating teacher. Tutoring occurs either one-on-one, in small groups or in whole group settings. High School students typically work with students for one semester.

Younger students tend to look up to older students and thereby become more motivated to learn. The attention given an older student to younger students often helps them to build self-confidence, thereby increasing self-esteem. Success tends to teach students more than failure and tutors can help students succeed. Tutoring provides opportunities to learn, to teach, to grow, and to be of direct services to others.
