Get Involved at the Community Recreation Department

The Community Recreation Department is always offering ways to get involved. Community members can donate, sponsor different events, join the Advisory Board, or volunteer to be a coach.

Donate

Many people already know the personal rewards that come from giving to organizations that they believe in, and The Community Recreation Department has certainly received gifts from many generous donors in our community over time. At The Community Recreation Department, those donations are turned into fun, learning and enrichment for people of many ages and interests. If you are interested in donating please contact us.

We need your help and can maybe help you as well! The Recreation Department Summer Adventure programs need many household items that you may no longer want or need. The students and teachers in this program are very creative. The crafts and projects they make from your donations are very unique, imaginative and educational.

We are open to accepting all kinds of things, so if your items are not on the list please contact Troy at 459-3778 to see if we can use it.

We also accept donations of gently used toys, books, and stuffed animals for our summer carnivals.

How to Sponsor

Your sponsorship of $125 (or $100 per team for 3 teams or more) will provide approximately 14 players and 2 coaches with baseball or softball team t-shirts imprinted with your company name or logo. What better way to support our children and advertise your business or service at the same time? Please consider sponsoring one or more teams this season.

If you are looking for something unique to sponsor, we have several special events which would benefit from your support. The Recreation Department hosts a movie night at Vollrath Park during the summer as well as three carnivals throughout the city. Over 2,500 children typically participate in our events. Sponsorships of any amount are welcome.

For a sponsorship fee of $125 (or $100 per team for 3 or more teams) your company will provide 14 players and 2 coaches with flag football t-shirts with your company name/logo, flag sets and footballs. This is a great way to support children being active in our community and advertising at the same time.

Periodically special services are needed to accommodate special needs students in our programs, such as hearing interpreters and adaptive recreational equipment. Your support to help us cover these unexpected costs would be appreciated.

Many people don’t know that the Sheboygan Theatre Company is under the Recreation Department umbrella. This treasured organization has been offering extracurricular and educational opportunities to residents of every age for over 90 years, not to mention decades of entertainment to audiences. Become a show sponsor or purchase a program ad to get in front of the 1,500 or more patrons who attend every STC show.

Advisory Board

The purpose of the council is to provide residents with an opportunity to strengthen the process by which the department enhances the recreational opportunities within the school district. The group meets 3 to 4 times per year with meetings scheduled during the lunch hour. Should you be interested in serving as a member of the Citizens Advisory Council or have a topic for the council to consider, please call the Director of Recreation Jody Brooks at 459-3777.
