This is a mentoring program that seeks to match high need middle grade students with vetted high school
student mentors who have been trained in mandated reporting and trauma sensitive practices. The mentors spend approximately
one hour a week checking in with the middle schoolers not only to support them academically, but socially and emotionally as
well. The focus is on establishing safe, trusting mentoring relationships in which personal identity, self-esteem and confidence
can grow. The student mentors are provided with supervision and support by the School Social Workers at Horace Mann Middle
School and South High School.
