On November 1, 2024, there will be a change to the SASD Bus Pass Program through Shoreline Metro. Due to a large number of incidents onboard Shoreline Metro buses in the evenings by students over the past month, a decision has been made between Shoreline Metro and SASD to change the free ride time from 5:15 am to 5:15 pm Monday - Friday with the last departure for free rides being at 4:45 pm. Students will still need to present a digital bus pass or paper pass through the voucher process to ride during those times. After 5:15 pm on weekdays and all day on Saturdays, SASD students would be required to pay regular bus fares to ride the bus. We know that some of your students have legitimate after-school transportation needs and are not using the bus for any other purpose. Special accommodations will be offered to those students. An application can be obtained from the Shoreline Metro office for free evenings and Saturday fares. By completing the application and the application being approved, students will receive a special punch card; once the punch card is used, the student can reapply.
We are asking for your assistance in communicating this to your students. Shoreline Metro has made a sign that is attached that helps to explain this service change. It has already been posted on their website and their buses. The hope is that this change will curb the number of incidents in the evenings with students and still offer the service for those in need of it. This is a great partnership between SASD and Shoreline Metro and one that befits many of our students. Thank you for your assistance in continuing this partnership and making it successful. Please let me know if you have questions.
