Food Allergies & Special Dietary Needs

If your child requires a gluten-free or dairy-free menu and he/she plans to eat school meals, please print off the “Special Dietary Request Form” below and have it completed by a licensed medical practitioner (a healthcare provider who can prescribe medication) to request substitute foods/beverages. Please note that soy milk will be offered to students with dairy allergies unless almond milk is requested by the licensed medical practitioner. Students are able to request lactose-free milk without a Special Dietary Request Form on file.

The department is unable to provide alternative meals for any other allergies or restrictions due to religion.

Please send the completed forms directly to the School Nutrition Department in person at 830 Virginia Avenue or via email to Mariah Warnecke at mwarnecke@sasd.net.

Please Note

We do our best to maintain online allergy and nutrition information on our online menus. On the right-hand side of the online menus, you are able to filter for foods that contain any of the 8 most common food allergens. This is to be used as a guide only. If relying on this analysis for carbohydrate counting and/or other special dietary needs (allergens), please be aware of the following considerations:

  • The allergen details are only as accurate as the ingredient, recipe, and portion size entered into the software, based on data from the manufacturer or vendor.
  • Any new or newly formulated ingredients, changes in recipes, or changes in planned portion sizes may change the original analysis (and nutritional and/or allergen information).
  • Nutrient analyses can only allow for the planned portion size and are not able to compensate for the amount actually consumed.
  • There are times when last-minute substitutions or menu changes occur, and these may not be reflected in the daily or weekly nutrient analysis provided. Also, School Nutrition may not receive ample warning that a substitution will be required based on supply from our distributors or vendors.
