Volunteer Opportunities

One of the goals of the Sheboygan Area School District is to help students become Career and College ready by graduation. One of the Career readiness standards is for students to have served 25 hours of community service by graduation. In an effort to help students meet that goal, the school district has developed a community service form that will be available to all students to help them officially log and document any community service hours served while in high school. The Community Service Hours form will also be utilized by any students looking to document community service hours for National Honor Society. Printed copies can also be found in the North High Student Services Office.

If you have any questions about the Community Service Hours form, please contact Mrs. Shaw mshaw@sasd.net (National Honors Society Advisor) or Mr. Tagel ttagel@sasd.net (North High Counselor).

My name is Kaitlyn Rautmann and I am the Summer Camp Director at Camp Y-Koda, located in Sheboygan Falls, WI. We are a non-profit organization and are a branch of the Sheboygan YMCA.

Currently at camp we are preparing for our Spring & Summer camp programs and are looking for a volunteer to work alongside our Administrative team weekly. This person would work closely & assist with a variety of administrative task. As we know some students may have off on Wednesdays or may end their days early I thought this would be a great opportunity to share!

For more information I have attached the details sheet, where it will have more information if any students are interested in volunteering with us each week at camp. We are looking for about 1 or 2 volunteers.

The other volunteer position we have available is for ages 14-16, for those interested in furthering their leadership skills. Each summer we have an Assistant Counselor Volunteer program, which they have to apply and interview, and then they are eligible to work with a group for a full-week (all weeks or some weeks) of our summer camp program. I have attached our application form.

Please let me know if you have any questions and we hope a student may be interested!

Live Forever Project. The goal is to preserve local history and keep memories alive by collecting and sharing stories from the community through the arts. Students gather stories from local elders, and the option is given to the elders to have the stories preserved and shared through various art forms. This means artists involved in LFP make plays, songs, poems, dances, visual art, and other types of artistic work and publicly share them through performances and films.

Students could be involved in any aspect of the project they are interested in. So, if they are interested in the story gathering, but not the artistic aspect, that is totally fine and vice versa. There are also various options for how to gather stories, from in-person interviews to pen pal options. Summer school option on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings in the summer starting in June.

More information can be found at www.liveforever-project.org.

Volunteer Opportunities -- Connected to 4H Sheboygan and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Sheboygan County 4-H owns a 60-acre property near Hingham, and we very much need as many hands as we can get to assist in removing invasive species, downed trees, brush, spreading wood chips, general pruning/maintenance, and many other things along those lines. The work can be as easy or challenging as the students would like, and time can be scheduled in blocks as short as an hour or as long as they like! Now is a prime time to start working on these projects and we need help! If there are any interested students, we would love to work with them to set up some times for this. These projects can either be completed as your own group work day, or along with 4-H work days.

As for the DNR, all work to be completed is at Kohler Andrae State Park. There are forms to be completed, but once the initial paperwork is done the potential for hours accumulation is virtually unlimited

Pine Haven is looking for volunteers.  I am looking for people to come in on Wednesday nights at 6:30 to call BINGO in our independent living area. Once school starts again we could possibly move the date so it doesn't interfere with youth groups. I am also looking for people to come and give manicures, also in our independent living household. We can always use help with yard work as well if some would be more interested in that. We also have opportunities for visiting with residents, playing games and doing art projects.
We do need all volunteers to fill out an application packet before they start volunteering with us as well.
