Whether you plan to attend or not, please send me a picture of yourself for the video. It can be your senior picture, a picture of you and your friends, or just a picture of you in general. Graduation Date Change to Sunday, June 8:
Message sent: January 3, 2025
Dear SASD families of 12th-grade students,
We are reaching out to inform you of a change to the Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025. The ceremony will now occur on Sunday, June 8, 2025, instead of Saturday, June 7. It will be held in Vollrath Bowl.
This adjustment was necessary due to a scheduling conflict with the WIAA. While we are disappointed to lose our opportunity to have a built-in rain day, we want to ensure that students do not have to choose between attending their graduation ceremony or representing their school at a state competition.
In the event of inclement weather on Sunday, June 8, we may consider adjusting the ceremony’s start time or moving the event indoors to North and South High Schools.
We appreciate your understanding as we make this change to ensure the best possible experience for our students and their families.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or your child’s principal.
Thank you, and we look forward to celebrating the Class of 2025 with you in June!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jacob Konrath
Superintendent of Schools
In the case of rain, the graduation ceremony will be conducted on Sunday, June 8, 2024. If rain prevents a Saturday ceremony, emails will be sent to the families of all seniors, as well as an announcement being made over Sheboygan radio stations and our school district’s website on Saturday morning. Students are to come prepared wearing their gown, cap, and tassel. Be sure to see “Graduation Dress Code” details below. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
Rain Date: Sunday, June 8th
District leadership is committed to honoring the long tradition of an outdoor ceremony. The ceremony time on Sunday may be moved to avoid poor weather. If poor weather prevents an outdoor ceremony, an indoor ceremony will be held. If changes need to be made, emails will be sent to the families of all seniors, as well as an announcement being made over Sheboygan radio stations and our school district’s website. Students are to come prepared wearing their gown, cap, and tassel. Be sure to see “Graduation Dress Code” details below. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
A dress code will be in effect using the following guidelines:
Decades ago, the Board of Education adopted a set of rules for graduating seniors with the intent of maintaining dignity and decorum at Commencement. When these rules were adopted, the senior class officers were very involved in making these recommendations to the Board. The following expectations are those adopted by the Board. They will be enforced.
The boys must wear dress shoes (not tennis shoes), slacks (not blue jeans or shorts), socks and a dress shirt, along with the appropriate colored cap, gown and tassel. Ties are optional.
The girls must wear a skirt and blouse, a dress, or dress slacks and blouse, dress shoes (not tennis shoes) and the appropriate colored cap, gown and tassel. (“Dress” sandals are permitted.)
There may not be any writing or symbols on the caps and/or gowns.
New for Class of 2025- Our school district will be allowing students to wear APPROVED adornments during the graduation ceremony. This form must be completed by the due date: SASD Graduation Adornment Form-Individual Request
Empire Photography will be present at the graduation ceremony to take pictures of each graduate crossing the stage. Each graduate is asked to register on their website. Registration is free, and you are under no obligation to purchase photos. The link to register is: Empire Photography Senior Photo Registration.
Disruptive students will be removed from the ceremony and may appear before the Board of Education to get their diplomas. Disorderly conduct citations will be recommended for participants who disrupt the ceremony. Our seniors’ behavior has been such that this has not happened in more than 20 years.
Seniors will receive a diploma cover at the ceremony. The actual diploma may be picked up immediately following the ceremony in the Fellowship Hall at First Congregational Church across from Vollrath Bowl. If this is not possible, diplomas may be picked up in the North High School General Office beginning Monday, June 10. Graduates will need to show a photo I.D. to pick up their diploma. Only one diploma will be issued. Future proof of graduation is in the form of a transcript
Parents are reminded that senior participation at Commencement is strictly voluntary. Seniors not wishing to attend may pick up their diplomas at the above-stated time and place. It is the administration’s desire that all graduating seniors participate in the program. However, if a senior has a problem regarding the established standards or has other obligations, the senior may opt to forego the graduation ceremony.
We appreciate the cooperation of the City Council in passing an ordinance prohibiting alcoholic beverages at Vollrath Bowl between the hours of noon and 6:00 pm on graduation day. Years ago, we asked the Council to enact this ordinance to help us plan an event that has the dignity and decorum our graduation exercise deserves. Smoking/vaping is also prohibited.
Our seniors know they must have earned twenty-three (23) credits and passed all requirements to graduate. Anything less will prevent them from participation in the graduation exercises including the ceremony. Please review this fact with your daughter or son. If there is a problem in any course, encourage your child to do all that is necessary to pass the course or courses. In a few cases, some seniors may not know if they passed a course needed for graduation until 2:30 pm, Wednesday, June 4. IF A STUDENT IS FAILING A REQUIRED CLASS AFTER 2:30 PM ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONY. Parents /guardians will be notified by a telephone call after this time and day. Hopefully, we will not have to do this. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s counselor in the Student Services Center at 459-3558.
Apart from the Senior Banquet, the schools do not sponsor or organize any school picnics, parties or trips. If other community organizations conduct such activities, please be aware that the high schools do not provide the chaperones.
We are encouraging our seniors to treat their graduation with proper behavior as evidenced by the above expectations. We are asking you, as parents, to support our efforts by discussing these expectations with your student(s). Your help in this matter is much appreciated.
Graduation is a wonderful event for students and their families. We want everyone to enjoy this year’s graduation. This letter is sent to you with a sincere desire to keep you informed of our expectations and plans.
